Fact or Fake: The End of Reality? | Jane Corbin | TEDxUniversityofStAndrews

When we open our computers, turn on our TV’s do we know if it’s fact or fake? Do we know if it’s real or not? Everyday, we are all presented with information, which we are increasingly having to discern as real or not. In Jane’s own opinion, there have particular recent cases where fake news has muddied the water and consequently had a sinister effect as we are made to cast doubt on foreign affairs. Moreover, Jane considers the drastic effects fake news may have on our individual identity and safety, consequently encouraging each of us to turn to trusted authoritative resources so that we may begin to reject the false and find the truth within it. Jane is a senior correspondent for the BBC’s
Panorama, who specialises in foreign affairs,
diplomacy and international investigations and is
particularly known for her work on security issues,
proliferation and the rise of extremism. For the past
fourteen years Jane has reported and written about
al-Qaeda and ISIS and more recently produced
work relating to nuclear proliferation in North Korea.
Jane has contributed to 150 documentaries and
investigative films, and is a three times winner of the
